Prevalence of obesity and overweight in the US adults in 2008
- 34% of adults are obese, 68% of adult population is either overweight or obese, and 6% are extremely obese (BMI > 40.0 kg/m2)
- The prevalence of obesity in the U.S. more than doubled (from 15% to 34%) among adults and more than tripled (from 5% to 17%) among children and adolescents from 1980 to 2008
